2. Thyroid Cancer

Research reveals that nearly 100% patients diagnosed with thyroid cancer have been able to live up to over 5 years, however, the success rate depends entirely on the tissue type that’s stirring up trouble.

A thyroid is basically a butterfly-like gland present within the glands of the neck, and it is responsible for releasing hormones that are required by the body to regulate the heartbeat, burn excess calories and a range of other tasks.

Papillary, the most commonly occurring form of thyroid cancer grows very slowly, and that increases the chances of recovery. Since the speed is slow, it gives doctors the opportunity to treat these tumors even when they are large, or begin spreading towards other tissues surrounding them. In severe cases, the doctors can even perform a surgical operation to remove the gland entirely, after which the patient is required to take medications to create the hormones that were produced by the thyroid gland.

Research shows that medical experts have found quicker methods of spotting, diagnosing and treating thyroid cancer, which has further increased the rate of successful recovery. However, curing thyroid cancer can be extremely difficult if a patient has anaplastic thyroid cancer, a very rarely occurring type of cancer which according to research, yielded a 5-year survival rate of no more than 7% patients.

Medical experts do not advise the use of screening tests to monitor thyroid cancer. The traditional way of spotting this tumor is when one can feel swelling or lump-like growths in their neck, and the doctor will also use his hands to feel these growths before performing a diagnosis.

In certain cases, the doctors conduct ultrasounds to spot the problem, however, most cases of thyroid cancer are spotted during an ultrasound that was conducted to monitor another ailment. If you experience symptoms such as, breathing difficulties or trouble swallowing, along with feeling a lump in your neck, waste no time in getting yourself a doctor’s appointment.
